Hollow Park is a local surgery which cares for animals under the PDSA (The Peoples Dispensory for Sick Animals). PDSA can help you care for your animals if you cannot afford private vet fees - by paying for some of your vet bills.

Animals covered by the PDSA is not limited to dogs and cats - all popular domestic pets are treated, particularly those described as 'small furries' - rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, gerbils rats and mice. But the PDSA will only cover one animal per household, which must be pre-registered before it becomes ill or injured (with the exception of special payments which can be applied for to help pay for unpaid treatment fees).

You must fit into all of the following categories:

  • Your Postcode must start with one of the following: KA6, KA7, KA8, KA9, KA10 or KA19

  • You must rent or morgage or own your own home

  • You must be in receipt of financial help for housing costs - one of the following:
    • either Housing Benefit
    • or Council Tax Benefit
    • Note: Single person discount, second adult rebate or Council tax exemption do not qualify.

Please note, the following types of treatment are not covered by PDSA PetAid:

  • Vaccinations

  • Advanced medical and surgical treatments that would normally be referred to a specialist
  • Supply of prescription pet food

  • if successful you will get an application form which will need a payment of £3 to assist with administrative costs
  • If your application is accepted, you will be sent a PetAid certificate, valid for a fixed period your practice.
  • You must bring the certificate each time you take your pet for treatment, other wise free treatment cannot be offered

Special Payments:
When unpaid treatment fees exist for clients, who are eligable under the terms listed above for the normal PetAid scheme, the pet owner can apply for a one off Special Payment:

  • This Special Payment is to assist owners to achieve their initial registration with the PetAid scheme
  • It is a once only application
  • The owner must never previously have been a PetAid client
  • and must later apply for the normal PetAid scheme
  • Vet bill must be greater than £25 and the maximum award is £100
  • Only a contribution towards the bill will be paid
  • The money is paid to the practice, not the client
  • A £5 postal order is required to cover admin
  • Forms are available from the surgery - and need to be completed by the vet and owner

Further information is available from the PDSA website including details if you do not come from one of the above postcodes.

Please remember that the PDSA is a charity and owners are encouraged to make a contribution towards the cost of their pet's treatment. Donations can be given at the surgery, also a range of PDSA items are available from the surgery with all money going to the PDSA.
